In this episode of "Signature Stories," join former Artist Relations Director Dick Boak as he recounts the creative journey behind Martin's D-28M The Mamas and The Papas guitar. From hearing "Monday, Monday" on the radio for the first time in an airport parking lot to spotting John Phillips with his iconic D-28, Dick shares his personal connection to the group and their music.
Hear how he worked with Michelle Phillips, Lou Adler, and the estates of the group’s legendary members to create this stunning tribute, including its debut at The NAMM Show and the unforgettable moment Michelle sealed the collaboration with a kiss.
The Mamas and the Papas - John Phillips, Michelle Phillips, Cass Elliot, and Denny Doherty - shaped the sound of the Sixties with hits like "California Dreamin'" and "Creeque Alley," blending intricate vocal arrangements with folk-pop brilliance. Martin’s D-28M The Mamas and The Papas model captured that magic with exquisite craftsmanship, premium tonewoods, and a unique group inlay. Only 100 were made, making this guitar a rare piece of music history.
