In this new episode of Signature Stories with Dick Boak, we head to Martin’s historic North Street factory for a heartfelt look back at country legend Willie Nelson and the making of his 1998 Martin N-20WN signature model. This extremely limited guitar was designed to replicate the look, feel, and spirit of Willie’s beloved "Trigger"—before it became one of the most iconic and well-worn instruments in music history.

As the former head of artist relations at Martin, Dick shares behind-the-scenes stories of working with Willie, including a particularly memorable tale involving Willie’s tour bus, a downtown traffic circle, and a run-in with local police. Along the way, you'll learn what made this collaboration so special—from the Sitka spruce top and East Indian rosewood back and sides to the Texas inlay at the fifth fret, mellow yellow toner, and a custom pickup system built to echo the tonal character of Willie’s original.

With Willie's signature at the 18th fret and "TRIGGER" inlaid at the 12th, this guitar isn’t just a replica—it’s a tribute to one of the most legendary relationships between artist and instrument.
